An Ode to Volunteer Transportation

In the spirit of Dr. Seuss, here is a cheesy poem for your reading entertainment:

I could no longer drive and became quite upset;
for, who would take me to where I needed to get?
I felt downtrodden and quite stranded,
realizing how much I’d taken driving for granted.

I didn’t know what to do or whom to trust,
but was told, “Volunteer Transportation is a must!”
I called the program and registered right away
and scheduled my first ride for the next Friday.

My driver picked me up at a quarter to three;
she helped me into her car so patiently.
She made sure I was buckled in tight
as we drove off for my visit to see Dr. Bright.

Even though I hadn’t met her before,
we chatted as though we had strong rapport.
She made sure we arrived on time to the clinic
and was ready to take me home when I finished.

Our ride was soon over when we reached my abode,
and I waved to her as she backed into the road.
I smiled and thought with true elation:
“Thank goodness for Volunteer Transportation!”

I’ve had many rides and drivers since then,
and I’ve recommended the service time and again.
All of my drivers have been equally kind,
and  I’ve certainly noticed improved peace of mind.

Giving up my keys left me in utter disbelief,
but this program provided me with great relief.
To all of you volunteer drivers, I must say:
Thank you for gently helping me on my way!
